Beawar is a city situated in the central region of Rajasthan, India, and it serves as the administrative headquarters of Beawar District. The district was officially established on August 7, 2023, making it a newly formed administrative unit within the state.
The city lies 70 kilometres from Ajmer and 184 kilometres southwest of Jaipur, positioned amidst the Aravali hills. Historically, Beawar was the financial capital of the Ajmer-Merwara state of Rajputana and was a major center for trade, particularly in raw cotton. The presence of cotton presses and the Krishna cotton mills underscored its importance in the textile sector.
Today, Beawar hosts a diverse industrial base that includes mineral-based units, machine-based units, machine tools and accessories, pre‑stressed concrete pipes, plastic products, textiles, wooden furniture, and asbestos cement pipes. It is also recognized as the largest producer of cement in northern India, with Shree Cement being a prominent local company.
The district is rich in mineral resources, with reserves of feldspar, quartz, asbestos, soapstone, magnesite, calcite, limestone, mica, emerald, granite, and masonry stone. Additional mineral finds include barytes, fluorite, wollastonite, and vermiculite, which contribute to the region’s industrial and economic activities.
