Indian Navy ship INS Tarkash, on its regular deployment in the Southern Indian Ocean region, arrived at Port Louis, Mauritius on 30 October, 2026. The visit symbolizes the strengthening maritime partnership between India and Mauritius and will, through professional dialogue, joint activities and cultural exchange, provide an opportunity to deepen naval cooperation between the two countries.
During the port stay, the crew of INS Tarkash will take part in various activities with personnel of the Mauritius Coast Guard. These include joint training aimed at sharing operational experience and best practices, enhancing mutual coordination and strengthening cooperation. Cultural exchanges and community‑engagement activities will also be organised during the visit, giving personnel of both nations a chance to interact and further deepen bilateral ties.
INS Tarkash will also take part in the programmes organised on 2 November, 2026 to mark Mauritius’ 192nd Immigrant Day. The annual event commemorates the arrival of the first convoy of contracted Indian labourers at the immigrant jetty in Port Louis on 2 November, 1834. The day honours the historic legacy, struggles and contributions of those workers, whose descendants now form a large part of Mauritius’ population and have played a significant role in the country’s cultural and economic development. INS Tarkash’s participation underscores the deep historic and cultural ties between India and Mauritius.
The port visit is a significant symbol of India’s long‑term partnership with Mauritius, rooted in shared history, cultural affinities and mutual trust. It also reflects the Indian Navy’s continuous engagement and cooperation with friendly Indian Ocean nations. The visit promotes maritime cooperation, regional security and stability. Through such deployments and activities, the Indian Navy is continually strengthening maritime partnerships and advancing a vision of collective security and development across the ocean.
