  • ‘Dialogue’ Programme with Principals of State Politechnic Colleges Held

Jaipur, 23 October. A ‘Dialogue’ programme on strengthening state Politechnic Colleges and improving quality of technical education was held on Friday at the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Shri V. Srinivas. The programme saw principals of the state’s 10 Politechnic Colleges – Jodhpur, Ajmer, Kota, Alwar, Bharatpur, Sikri, Bikaner, Jaipur, State Women’s Politechnic College Jaipur and Kota – present on their institutions’ technical branches, infrastructure, student placements, innovations, best practices, future plans and key challenges.

Chief Secretary, seeing the vital role of Politechnic Colleges in making Rajasthan a manufacturing hub, gave directions to strengthen these colleges. He said that with rising industrial investment in the state, there are wide prospects for technical education and skilled manpower employment. Demand for skilled technical workers and blue‑collar workforce will remain constant, so Politechnic education must be upgraded to meet industry needs.

Chief Secretary said that curricula of these colleges should be updated to meet industry needs, and faculty skill development and training programmes should be organised. Effective steps should be taken to modernise laboratories. He directed special efforts to ensure better placement and higher salary packages for students. He said that regular workshops, field visits and technical dialogues should be held to increase coordination between technical education institutions and industries. Continuous workshops, seminars and special sessions on new technologies should be organised in institutions so that academic activities are encouraged and students get practical training and understand industry practices.

Chief Secretary, stressing increased participation between Politechnic Colleges and Engineering Colleges, said that mutual cooperation should be encouraged in various academic and technical programmes. He directed work towards establishing at least five Centres of Excellence in the state. Coordination should be established with government undertakings (PSUs) to develop Centres of Excellence with their cooperation.

Additional Chief Secretary, Higher and Technical Education Shri Kuldeep Ranka said that currently 68 state Politechnic Colleges are operating in the state. The state government is making continuous efforts to increase student admissions and improve operations of these institutions. In this direction, three Centres of Excellence have been established in Jaipur and one in Jodhpur, and one each is being established in Jodhpur and Bikaner.
