• 30,000‑sq‑ft new facility centre to promote IT/ITES firms, startups and tech‑driven entrepreneurship in the state
  • The new centre will offer modern infrastructure and a collaborative environment for innovation, product development and job creation

Under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) inaugurated its new incubation facility at IT Park, Sahasradhara Road, Dehradun (Uttarakhand). The opening was graced by the Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology and Commerce & Industry, Shri Jitin Prasad, in the presence of Uttarakhand’s IT & e‑Governance Minister Shri Pradeep Batra and Agriculture Minister Shri Ganesh Joshi.

The 30,000‑sq‑ft facility spread over four floors offers semi‑furnished office space, high‑speed internet, a climate‑controlled and eco‑friendly work environment, an auditorium, two meeting rooms, two conference rooms and a Network Operations Centre (NOC). It is designed to provide a conducive work setting for technology enterprises, fostering collaboration, business expansion and progress.

Addressing the programme, Union Minister Jitin Prasad said, “India’s journey to becoming a developed nation is driven by two engines: technology and business. In this rapidly interconnected world, technological self‑reliance is essential to ensure the country does not depend on external sources for critical technologies like semiconductors. The Covid‑19 pandemic proved how a chip shortage can affect the entire industry, underscoring the importance of strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities. Our focus on bolstering the semiconductor and electronics manufacturing ecosystem safeguards India’s tech future while keeping pace with the world and adopting global best practices.”

He added, “STPI’s new incubation facility in Dehradun will provide a vibrant environment where startups and tech enterprises can collaborate, exchange ideas and develop innovative solutions. With over 1,700 recognised startups already in Uttarakhand, such an initiative can further strengthen the state’s entrepreneurship ecosystem. Alongside efforts to promote electronics manufacturing, including component manufacturing and the ‘Electronics Manufacturing Cluster’ in Kashi Pur, this centre will attract investment, create jobs and offer opportunities for youth. Our aim is to build a self‑reliant India capable of competing globally and contribute meaningfully to the ‘Developed India’ vision.”

Uttarakhand IT & e‑Governance Cabinet Minister Pradeep Batra said, “The vision of ‘Developed India’ by 2047 is not limited to infrastructure development; it requires a shift in our thinking, aspirations and commitment to the nation. Uttarakhand, with its people’s capabilities and dedication, has immense potential to progress. As tourism and business interest grow in the state, strengthening infrastructure and improving access to modern facilities will be essential. Initiatives like STPI’s new incubation facility in Dehradun will create a conducive environment for technology, innovation and entrepreneurship, contributing to Uttarakhand’s development and the broader vision of Developed India.”

Uttarakhand IT Secretary Pankaj Pandey said, “STPI’s new incubation facility is a significant addition to Uttarakhand’s technology ecosystem, providing the necessary infrastructure and support, including initiatives like the ‘Centre of Entrepreneurship’, for young entrepreneurs to turn their expertise into successful businesses. Alongside this entrepreneurial boost, Uttarakhand is advancing digital governance by offering around 1,000 services online. These joint efforts strengthen the state’s digital presence, encourage innovation and open new doors for Uttarakhand’s youth.”

Uttarakhand Agriculture Minister Ganesh Joshi said, “Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Developed India’ vision, we must create new opportunities for our youth beyond traditional IT hubs. Dehradun, already known as an educational centre, has the potential to emerge as a major IT destination like Bengaluru and Hyderabad. I am confident this new centre will open new pathways for development, strengthen Uttarakhand’s technology ecosystem and create more opportunities for youth in the next five years.”

STPI Director‑General Arvind Kumar said, “STPI’s nationwide network is a key strength, enabling startups to move beyond their local ecosystems and access investors, expertise and tech solutions across the country. The new Dehradun incubation facility will provide infrastructure to emerging IT/ITES enterprises looking to establish or expand operations. It will also support startups through ‘Centres of Entrepreneurship’, mentorship and industry engagement focused on real‑world challenges such as cybersecurity. This facility will help build a comprehensive support ecosystem for technology‑driven businesses in Uttarakhand. With the state government’s focus on IT/ITES and startup policies, we believe Uttarakhand is fully prepared to accelerate the growth of its technology and startup ecosystem.”

Established in 2001 with the support of the Uttarakhand government, STPI works to promote and support the state’s IT/ITES industry through Dehradun incubation services and the implementation of STP, Non‑STP and EHTP schemes. The existing incubation facility at IT Park, Dehradun, offers about 19,533 sq‑ft of super‑built‑up space, currently utilised by several IT/ITES units. The new facility will further expand and strengthen the infrastructure available to technology enterprises in the region.

STPI Dehradun’s initiatives also extend to startup development and financial assistance. Under the Next‑Generation Incubation Scheme (NGIS), 52 startups were selected through various challenges/competitions, of which 17 received a total of ₹4.25 crore in seed funding and more than 26 received a stipend of ₹90,000 per startup. These initiatives reinforce STPI’s broader efforts to promote technology innovation, support new entrepreneurs and facilitate the development of large‑scale products and solutions.

The inauguration marks another major step toward strengthening Uttarakhand’s technology ecosystem by improving access to incubation infrastructure and fostering collaboration among government, industry, academia and entrepreneurs. Through continuous engagement with stakeholders, STPI aims to support the growth of IT/ITES enterprises, promote innovation and intellectual property creation, and contribute to technology‑driven economic growth and job creation in the state.
