On 2 November, Shri G. P. Suthar (Additional District & Sessions Judge) organised a legal awareness camp on child marriage and women’s rights in Shri Ganganagar, under the Rajasthan State India Scout Guide.

During the camp, ADJ Suthar addressed the students, stating that awareness of women’s rights is the first step to empowerment. He described the dowry system as a serious stigma for society and declared that taking, giving or facilitating dowry under the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961 is an unlawful offence.

He also explained that child marriage is a widespread social challenge in India. Under the Child Marriage Restraint Act, a girl must be at least 18 years and a boy at least 21 years old to marry. He noted that child marriage especially in rural and tribal areas promotes poverty, gender inequality and health risks.

Attendees were informed about the baby care homes. If a newborn is found on a road or in bushes, they were urged to immediately bring it to the Shri Ganganagar State Hospital or the State Protection Home’s baby care facility.

Chief Rohatash Yadav, Legal Defence Council, detailed the Victim Compensation Scheme, National Public Court and Permanent Public Court systems. The session was moderated by Aman Chalana and information about free legal aid and the NALSA helpline number 15100 was provided.
