The elderly person clicked a link on Facebook on 21 Oct 2026 and lost ₹1.73 lakh from their bank account.
According to police, Dinesh Porwal of Vidya Nagar, Sector‑4, filed a report at the station. He said that after opening the link, ₹97,000 was deducted from his ICICI bank account, and the next day ₹76,800 was deducted.
No alert was received from the bank for either deduction. Porwal only discovered the loss after visiting the bank.
After the case was registered, the investigation is underway with cyber experts. Cyber expert DSP Shyam Singh Ratnu warned against opening unknown links and not entering bank details on unfamiliar sites.
He also advised checking that mobile number and alert features are correctly enabled on the bank account, and to immediately contact the bank’s official helpline or branch if a deduction occurs. Fraud can be reported by calling cyber helpline 1930, or by filing a report at the police or cyber crime station.
