On 21 October, two children were strangled to death in Pura Sikraunda village, Kanchanpur police area, Dolpur, and the accused uncle hanged himself from a tree; police disclosed the case this evening.
According to SP Vikas Sagwan, the bodies of two children and 25‑year‑old Vishnu Kushwaha were found near a field on 21 October. The deceased include 8‑year‑old Sunny and 6‑year‑old Manas, sons of Santosh Kushwaha.
Sequence of events
Police said that on 20 October at 9 a.m., Vishnu Kushwaha went to his sister’s house, where his mother and both children were present. He later returned to his village with the children and kept them moving around all day. In the evening he went to a field with breakfast and alcohol, fed the children and drank himself.
SP Vaibhav Sharma said that under the influence of alcohol, Vishnu strangled 8‑year‑old Sunny and 6‑year‑old Manas, then walked a short distance and hanged himself from a tree with a plastic rope.
Family dispute angle
Police said the murder stemmed from a family dispute. Vishnu Kushwaha had ongoing friction with his sister‑in‑law and brother, which created the backdrop for the violent act, SHO Harendra Gurjar said.
An officer said it is a family matter and other motives may exist, but police have not yet disclosed them.
Police action
Police completed the investigation within five days and filed a report. The family and villagers kept constant pressure, which expedited the probe, SP Vikas Sagwan said.
