Between the night of 21‑22 October 2026, customs officers at the Import Commissioner’s Air Cargo Complex (ACC) in Delhi achieved another major success in the ongoing probe against drug‑smuggling gangs. Preliminary tests identified the seized material as hydroponic marijuana (hydro bhang). In total, 23.220 kg of narcotic substance was recovered and confiscated.
The estimated market value of the seized narcotics is about ₹8.12 crore, while their estimated market value in India is roughly ₹23 crore. The drugs and their packaging were seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
Based on intelligence obtained during the previous seizure of 148.675 kg of ganja from Bangkok, customs officials intercepted another suspicious import consignment arriving from Bangkok, reported to contain lamps. The earlier seizure exposed a large smuggling gang and triggered a series of coordinated actions across 11 locations in three states.
After questioning a person linked to an individual arrested in the first seizure on 15 October 2026, the consignment was examined in the presence of the importer. Detailed inspection revealed several lamps mounted on wooden pallets. Although the goods appeared harmless, X‑ray imaging showed an unusual pattern. Further investigation led officers to open the pallet base, uncovering 23 vacuum‑sealed packets filled with compressed green leafy material hidden within the pallet structure.
As a result of the ongoing operation, another person was arrested on 22 October 2026 and presented before the magistrate that evening. The investigation remains ongoing.
With this latest seizure, Delhi customs has confiscated about 172 kg of narcotics and arrested two persons, delivering a significant blow to the smuggling network.
Delhi customs is committed to protecting society from the threat of narcotics through intelligence‑driven enforcement, enhanced risk assessment and coordinated inter‑agency action. The department will maintain a high level of vigilance to detect and dismantle such criminal networks.
