• 79 unverified weighbridges seized, 16 at Bhandarej Toll Plaza also seized
  • Inspection of 380 weighbridges across the state, ₹10.95 lakh fine imposed

Jaipur, 23 October. In line with instructions from Consumer Affairs Minister Shri Sumit Godara, the Consumer Affairs Department’s Legal Metrology Division conducted a statewide special inspection drive on 21 and 22 October to protect consumer interests and curb potential irregularities at toll plazas. During the drive, 380 weighbridges were inspected across the state, and 79 unverified weighbridges were seized. A total fine of ₹10,95,000 was imposed across the state.

Major action at Bhandarej Toll Plaza, Dausa

During the drive, the department took strict action upon finding unverified weighbridges operating at Bhandarej Toll Plaza in Dausa district. Sixteen weighbridges were seized to prevent any potential irregularities arising from an unverified weighing system.

How unverified weighbridges can cause economic loss to consumers

Toll charges at toll plazas for heavy vehicles are often determined based on the vehicle’s weight and applicable toll rules. If the weighing equipment has not been validly verified, its accuracy cannot be guaranteed. Incorrect weighing can lead to a vehicle’s weight being recorded higher than its actual weight, resulting in the vehicle owner being charged more toll than required. Additionally, incorrect weighing can adversely affect transportation costs, freight charges and other weight‑based payments.

To prevent similar irregularities, ensure transparency in weighing and protect the economic interests of consumers and vehicle owners, the department launched this special drive.

Clear warning from the department

The Legal Metrology Division has clarified that all weighbridges and weighing equipment must undergo valid verification as per regulations. Strict action will be taken against those using unverified weighing equipment.

The department will continue inspection drives to ensure accuracy, transparency and protection of consumer interests.
