Palai city, struggling with water shortage, will soon receive more than 101 MCFT from Hemawas dam after a 17‑year interval.

The dam, built in 1911 during British rule, stands 12 m high, holds 62.6 million cubic metres, and is Palai district’s third‑largest reservoir.

Plan to deliver water

Jalday Department decided to build a strong wall near the dam and deliver water directly via a Jawai pipeline to the city’s headworks.

An 80‑horse‑power pump was installed at Sanchour, lifting about 1 million litres per hour.

Previous use and new direction

Previously Hemawas dam water mainly supplied Gandhinagar, Tagore Nagar and Sojat. Now it will reach Palai’s inner city headworks areas.

Kaan Singh Raanavat, senior engineer, said pumping and pipeline linking are finalised and potable water supply will start soon.
