Guests in attendance

Rear Admiral Kapil Mehta, Assistant Controller of Production and Acquisition, was the chief guest at the event.

Background of Production

Contracts were signed in November 2024 and January 2026 with Messrs Surya Dipta Projects Private Limited, a micro, small and medium enterprise shipyard in Thane, for the construction of four 300‑ton slough barges and three bottom‑opening dumb barges.

Design and construction of these vessels were carried out indigenously by the shipyard in collaboration with an Indian ship design firm and the Indian Port Transport Register (IRS).

These vessels will assist Indian Navy ships in operations and play a key role in ensuring compliance with international regulations on marine pollution prevention.

Under the Make in India initiative

These small vessels are proud flag‑bearers of the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.
