- Dr. Homi Bhabha’s vision guides India’s peaceful nuclear journey as the country moves towards energy security and clean energy: Dr. Jitendra Singh
- “To use artificial intelligence, a person must be wise,” Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized responsible, human‑led AI use across sectors
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi has opened critical and sensitive sectors to private companies, creating broad opportunities for private‑sector participation
- India aims for 100 GW nuclear capacity by 2047 and net‑zero emissions by 2070; nuclear power will play a key role in meeting growing demand for reliable, clean electricity: Dr. Jitendra Singh
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said India’s nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes, not war, reaffirming the vision that has guided the country’s nuclear journey from the start
Mr. Singh said in a special dialogue at the Bloomberg Economy Forum 2026 that nuclear power’s role in meeting India’s future energy needs will become even more critical, including fulfilling the rising demand for reliable power for artificial intelligence and data centres
Recalling the vision of nuclear programme pioneer Dr. Homi Bhabha, Dr. Jitendra Singh said India has always used nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and national development, noting that commitment to peaceful nuclear technology remains central to policy as the country expands its capabilities to meet emerging developmental and technological needs
The minister said India’s nuclear energy ambitions should be seen as part of its long‑term development goals and clean‑energy commitments, with a target of 100 GW nuclear capacity by 2047 and net‑zero by 2070, so nuclear power will together with other sources provide continuous, reliable clean energy
Linking nuclear power to the next phase of technological development, Dr. Jitendra Singh said AI and expanding data centres will need reliable energy sources that can meet their growing, continuous demand, adding that nuclear energy will complement India’s other energy programmes and help meet the power needs of an increasingly technology‑dependent economy
The Union Minister highlighted AI’s expanding role, saying it should be seen not as a separate field but as a tool usable across all sectors—from space and life sciences to other scientific and technological domains—and stressed that a person must also be wise to use artificial intelligence responsibly
Dr. Jitendra Singh said AI is beneficial across many sectors but ensuring its proper use and preventing misuse by any individual or party is a major challenge, noting that while regulations exist, honesty at both personal and national levels is essential for responsible technology use, and added that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership India has made commendable efforts in this direction
The Union Minister also noted that the Modi government is further opening critical and sensitive sectors to private companies, expanding private‑sector participation in areas that were previously limited, thereby giving industries opportunities to contribute to technological progress, innovation and national development
Dr. Jitendra Singh’s remarks combine two key aspects of India’s development path: strengthening nuclear power as a reliable source of clean energy and using emerging technologies like AI responsibly under human guidance. As India advances toward its 2047 development goals and 2070 net‑zero pledge, a dependable energy infrastructure and broad participation in strategic sectors will be crucial to meet the country’s technological and economic ambitions
