Special inspection drive of Consumer Affairs Department continues in Rajasthan, 30 firms issued notices

A special inspection drive is being conducted by the Consumer Affairs Department in Rajasthan to protect consumer rights and ensure correct measurement in the market on the occasion of Diwali. This information was given in a government press release.

Under the direction of Consumer Affairs Minister Sumit Godara, this special inspection drive has been continuously conducted by the Legal Metrology Cell since November 2. Under this, a total of 241 establishments have been inspected across the state so far.

Action taken in Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur

During the inspection, 30 firms have been issued notices regarding packed items not having necessary declarations as per rules and other irregularities. Under the drive, a total penalty of ₹8,16,000 has been imposed across the state.

In Jaipur, during inspection on November 2, a total penalty of ₹90,000 was imposed on Suresh Bakery (Gopalpura Bypass) and Shri Agarwal Caterers (Shastri Nagar) for finding less quantity than declared in packets of khari biscuit and son papdi. In Jodhpur, 150 packets of dry fruits being sold through e-commerce were seized and a penalty of ₹65,000 was imposed for finding less quantity at Nutrisafe Company located in Krishi Upaj Mandi. In Udaipur, 170 packets of mustard oil were seized and a penalty of ₹65,000 was imposed for finding less quantity at Mangal Industries located in RIICO Industrial Area Fatehnagar.

Minister's statement and appeal to consumers

Consumer Affairs Minister Sumit Godara said that it is the right of every consumer to receive the product according to the quantity declared on the packet on paying the full price. He said that cheating consumers by any manufacturer, packer or seller by providing less quantity will not be tolerated.

The Legal Metrology Cell has appealed to the general public to essentially check the net quantity, maximum retail price, manufacturing or packing date marked on the packet while buying packed items.
