An intensive screening campaign is being run by the Medical and Health Department with the objective of reducing maternal and infant mortality rates in Sawai Madhopur district. Under this, health check-ups and HRP screening of a large number of pregnant women were conducted on the Maternal, Child Health and Nutrition Day organized on Thursday.
Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Anil Kumar Jemini stated that ante-natal check-ups, blood pressure, hemoglobin, weight, blood sugar and other necessary examinations of pregnant women are being conducted on MCHN Day. Based on these tests, risk factors related to problems like high blood pressure, severe anemia and diabetes are being identified and women are being categorized under the high-risk pregnancy category.
Specialist consultation and follow-up arrangements
Regular follow-up, necessary treatment and specialist medical consultation of the identified women are being ensured, and if needed, they are being referred to higher health institutions. Apart from this, pregnant women are being counseled by health workers about nutritious diet, personal hygiene, identification of danger signs and safe institutional delivery.
Under the campaign, continuous counseling is also being provided regarding newborn care, starting breastfeeding within one hour of birth and feeding only mother's milk for six months.
