Thirty-three-year-old Rahul Kumar, a resident of Janjgir-Champa district in Chhattisgarh, has received financial assistance under the National Fellowship for Scheduled Caste Students (NFSC) scheme. This assistance has helped him advance his PhD studies and research work.
Hailing from a BPL family, Rahul Kumar faced financial hurdles and a shortage of resources while conducting advanced research. He also had to deal with the impact of certain institutional challenges.
Financial stability brought by the fellowship
In July 2023, he started receiving assistance under the NFSC scheme of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Under this, he received an amount of ₹45,700 as fellowship assistance and House Rent Allowance (HRA), which provided him with necessary financial stability.
With financial difficulties easing through this fellowship, he focused more effectively on his research work. According to a Press Information Bureau (PIB) release, this scheme has contributed to enhancing inclusive access to higher education.
