The Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India launched the API integration between the Startup India portal and the Indian Science, Technology and Engineering Facilities Map (I-STEM) portal on November 6, 2026. This initiative was undertaken in collaboration with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, and under the chairmanship of Principal Scientific Adviser Prof. Ajay Kumar Sood.
The main objective of this integration is to strengthen the connection between the startup ecosystem and the country's research infrastructure, enabling DPIIT-recognized startups to easily discover existing scientific and testing facilities. Scientific Secretary of the PSA Office Dr. Parvinder Maini and Additional Secretary of DPIIT Atish Kumar Singh, along with several other officials, were present at the launch event.
Research Cost and Time Will Be Saved
Shri Atish Kumar Singh said that this integration will provide DPIIT-recognized startups with better information about specialized research, testing, and prototyping facilities, thereby reducing the need for separate capital investment in expensive equipment.
Key Features of Portal Integration
- In upcoming phases, a 'Single Sign-On' (SSO) facility will be added, allowing startups to directly access I-STEM facilities through the Startup India portal.
- There will be automatic verification of DPIIT recognition status, making it easier to search for scientific equipment.
- Every request for the use of facilities will be evaluated and approved by the respective institution based on technical suitability, availability, and applicable fees.
- As of November 6, 2026, I-STEM has listed 31,540 instruments across 4,044 registered institutions.
