The Finance Services Department has been honoured with the 'PM Surya Ghar Excellence Award' for playing a leading role in installing solar energy plants in government buildings. This award was presented on November 05, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
According to a government release, the Finance Services Department has achieved a 100 percent target by commissioning rooftop solar systems of a total capacity of 61.50 megawatts across 2,576 locations, installing solar energy plants in all viable administrative buildings. This honour has been given for second place in the category of “Installation of solar energy plants in the maximum number of buildings by central ministries/departments”.
How the target was achieved
Under this national campaign, technical and structural feasibility was assessed in a total of 4,144 buildings. Parameters such as rooftop access right, building ownership, shadow conditions and load-bearing capacity were examined in this assessment.
After inspection, 2,576 buildings were found viable for installing solar energy plants. Organizations under the department have installed and commissioned rooftop solar photovoltaic plants in all these identified buildings, generating 61.50 megawatts of clean energy capacity.
Background of the ceremony
This award was presented by the Vice President of India during the closing session of the India Renewable Energy Summit & Exhibition 2026 (BRE Summit). This summit was organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.
This event concluded alongside the 9th Assembly of the International Solar Alliance and the 4th International Conference on Green Hydrogen.
